Third Saturday Democratic Breakfast

The January Wyandotte County Third Saturday Democratic Breakfast will meet Saturday, January 21st at Painted Hills Golf Course, 7101 Parallel Parkway.

Our speaker this month will be State Representative Valdenia Winn, chair of the Wyandotte County legislative delegation and Jason Perkey, the new executive director of the Kansas Democratic Party.

A breakfast buffet is available at 8:15 am and the program begins at 9:00. Cost for the buffet is ten dollars, which includes tax, service and tip; five dollars for students and those with limited income.

All Democrats are welcome to attend. Reservations are requested by Friday, January 20th, but not required. To RSVP Email Scott Mackey or call the county Democratic Party office at 913-287-2300.

This is the first meeting of election year 2012, and new breakfast memberships are available. Your donation of $110 to the breakfast gets you a monthly breakfast reservation, a personalized name tag and other benefits. If you are unable to attend one of the breakfasts, you may designate someone to attend in your place. Talk to Matt Watkins at the Breakfast registration table for more information.

- Special Committee on Redistricting holds a public hearing on redrawing congressional and state legislative districts at the Jack Reardon Convention Center, Wyandotte 1 room, from 9 to 11:30 am. Individuals wishing to present testimony should contact the Legislative Research Department, 785-296-3181, at least 24 hours before the hearing.

- Wyandotte County Head Start music benefit at Knuckleheads, 2715 Rochester, Kansas City, Missouri, from 7:30 to 10:30 pm. Kelley Hunt and Trampled Under Foot are the featured performers. Requested donation is $15. There will be a silent auction and a drawing.

This is a benefit to raise money to help with repairs to the Bryant building, which houses Head Start offices and several classrooms. This benefit in is honor of, Burlene Mackey, who passed away January 1. For more information, contact scottmackey08@yahoo.com

The September Wyandotte County Third Saturday Democratic Breakfast will feature a panel on labor unions: Donna Birks, Tri-County AFL-CIO President and UAW 31 Treasurer; Sharon Al-Uqdah, Greater KC American Postal Workers Union local 67 president; and Judy Ancel, director of the UMKC Institute for Labor Studies.

A breakfast buffet is available at 8:15 am and the program begins at 9:00. Cost for the buffet is ten dollars, which includes tax, service and tip; five dollars for students and those with limited income.

Third Saturday Democratic Breakfast

The August Wyandotte County Third Saturday Democratic Breakfast will meet Saturday, August 20th at Painted Hills Golf Course, 7101 Parallel Parkway.

Our speaker this month will be Joan Wagnon, State Chair of the Kansas Democratic Party. Joan Wagnon was secretary of the Kansas Department of Revenue from January 13, 2003 until January 2011. She was the first and so far only female mayor of Topeka, holding office from 1997–2001. Prior to her election as mayor, Wagnon was Executive Director of Kansas Families for Kids, represented Topeka for 12 years in the Kansas House of Representatives, and was executive director of the Topeka YWCA.

The annual Dave Peterson Memorial Golf Tournament will be Sunday, August 28. The tournament benefits United Way and the Tri-County AFL-CIO Community Services program. For more information, call the UAW Local 31 office at 913-342-7330.

The KCK NAACP will be sponsoring the 93rd Annual Freedom Fund Celebration Banquet at the Jack Reardon Convention Center on Saturday, September 3. The dinner begins at 6 pm.
The speaker will be Dr. Bernard Franklin and the theme is NAACP: Affirming America's Promise.

We are seeking volunteers for our Election Night Early Returns Project. The Wyandotte County Democratic Central Committee has been getting results from almost all the precincts in Wyandotte County at the polls for the past two years. The project has been very successful and extremely accurate.

Candidates are especially encouraged to help supply volunteers.

We are asking for a hour of your time on the upcoming primary and general election nights.

The primary is on Tuesday, March 1 and the general election is on Tuesday, April 5.
